Methods of Data Collection: A Comprehensive Guide

Image
Methods of Data Collection: A Comprehensive Guide    Data collection is a fundamental step in any research process. Without the right data, one cannot derive accurate conclusions or insights. Thus, it is essential to understand different methods of data collection. In this blog post, we will discuss four common methods, including questionnaires, interviews, experiments, and observations. Questionnaires Questionnaires are a popular method of data collection in research, particularly for quantitative data. They are typically structured with set questions, which can include open-ended questions for qualitative data or closed-ended questions for quantitative data. Questionnaires can be administered in various ways, such as face-to-face, over the phone, or online. They are cost-effective and can reach a large number of participants, thus providing a significant amount of data. Interviews Interviews are another common method of data collection. LIT Fest Discusses Different Political Systems of Nepal

Image
In the last seven decades, the nation has experienced three distinct systems. Before 1951, there was the Rana regime, followed by the monarchy until 2008, and later the adoption of democracy. With each transition, there was an expectation that the country's situation would improve. However, reality often diverged from these expectations. Recently, there have been calls to abolish federalism, with claims that it has become too costly for the country. However, some politicians argue that scrapping federalism is not a solution. On the last day of the 11th edition of the Nepal Literature Festival, discussions were held on the Rana regime, monarchy, and democracy. Chandra Dev Joshi, the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (United), stated that federalism has not imposed an economic burden on the country. “The essence of federalism is equality,” says Joshi. “Without maintaining equality, federalism cannot thrive.” He emphasizes that federalism is essential for strengthenin...

Image
“Appointing good VCs alone cannot improve the situation of universities” The selection process for the vice-chancellor of Tribhuvan University is ongoing. TU is plagued by problems such as political instability, delayed results, and lack of transparency. Similar issues are prevalent in other universities across the country. Debate has arisen regarding whether the VC should have political affiliations. The 11th edition of the Nepal Literature Festival held a session about problems faced by Nepal’s universities. Kusum Shakya, Department Head of Economics, former TU professor Sanjib Uprety, and constitutional expert Bipin Adhikari were speakers at the session. Uprety emphasizes that appointing good VCs alone cannot rectify the situation of universities. “The authorities should first identify and address the challenges faced by the universities,” says Uprety. Ending politicization in universities is crucial to improving their conditions, Uprety adds. “The presence of po...

The Agony of Lahureni Pokhara is renowned as the place of Lahure, Nepali soldiers serving in foreign armies. The city of lakes has a longstanding association with the term Gorkha. Pokhara isn't merely a hub for retired Lahure, but also for those currently serving as Lahure. Currently, Pokhara, the place of Lahure, is hosting the 11th edition of the Nepal Literature Festival. On Sunday, the festival conducted a session under the theme "Lahureni ko Katha Byatha," which translates to "The Stories and Agony of Lahureni," the wife of Lahure. In both World Wars, Lahure demonstrated their valor on the battlefield, proving themselves as brave and loyal through their deeds and dedication. However, the stories of Lahureni have often been overshadowed. Former member of the Gandaki Province parliament, Meena Gurung, expresses disappointment with  the way how Lahureni are treated or known.  “The role and contribution of Lahureni have often been overlooked,” says ...

Why stay in the homeland ? The number of people leaving the country for employment opportunities is increasing rapidly. Although the country is receiving a high amount of remittance, the migration of youth to foreign lands has become one of the major problems of the country. In the 11th edition of the Nepal Literature Festival, a discussion session was conducted about it. The speakers of the session were the former CEO of Nabil Bank, Anil Keshari Shah, Professor Kapil Adhikari, and entrepreneur Prathana Saakha. The theme of the session was "Swadesh Kina Basney?" which translates to "Why stay in the homeland?" in English. During the session, Shah said it has been challenging for many people to stay in the country and do something. "Only if youth start seeing the future in the country, will the country be better," says Shah. "If we cannot create a situation for youth to stay in the homeland, they can't be stopped from leaving the country."...
